My son got an offer at WYAC. We’re inclining to accept it, and we’re looking at courses that WYAC has to offer. For 7th grade, we need to choose two electives from
1. World Language
2. Computer Science or Robotics
3. Visual Art
4. Performing Arts
5. Instructional Support (or Study Hall-is a noncredit
class).Though we understand that electives are based on individual interests, we would like to hear previous students’ experiences with their choice.
If your kid has attended WYAC, please share
Choice of electives
Why you chose those electives?
Students experience in those classes
If you’ve to do it again(hypothetically), will you pick the same or different? Why?We’re new to this process and any input matters.
Thanks in advance.

My daughter is a WYAC/HS grad.
Choice of electives: 7th grade: Performing Arts and Instructional Support
Why you chose those electives? She already played an instrument. Instructional Support was recommended for all 7th graders because it is a big transition.
Students experience in those classes: She always enjoyed band and enjoyed the mix of ages (7th-12th). Instruction Support: She did not always do homework but used the period to chill out/socialize/meeting with teachers when necessary. She found it to be a helpful break in her day.
If you’ve to do it again(hypothetically), will you pick the same or different? Why? The same. She only took Instructional Support for that first year. Remember that, as a six-year student, you have plenty of time to take all the requirements and more. She had time to take enough AP classes to get the AP Capstone Diploma. So, there’s no rush. We felt it was important to have that gentle introduction to the Academic Center.-

Thanks, JenFG. Your input gave us new insight to Instructional Support.
Last week FoWY organized parent panel, and WYAC coordinator mentioned that they can choose an elective and later switch to instructional support, but other-way around is not possible. So, my son has opted to take two electives – CS and performing arts. We’ll have to see how the workload will be.
Once again, thank you 🙂
