Anyone else had their child say the exam was more difficult this year? Particularly in math?

I heard multiple 8th graders say the math section was hard. Most likely to compensate for the NWEA being removed. I even heard people were crying and another kid was about to punch their Chromebook… Not sure if it’s entirely true.

Yes, it was most definitely much harder. This is terrible. These students just came back from remote learning which isn’t the best for learning and now that they are back in school under a different environment, they get slammed with this unfair math test. Very smart kids didn’t even do well. Half the math was not even taught to them. Very upsetting indeed. This should not have been approved as a test. Total disregard to the circumstances of these students with this pandemic and the impact that this unfair test will now have on them. Way to bring down their confidence.

My child also reported that the math section was unreasonably difficult with concepts and terminology they had never seen before. And there was a child who started crying in my kid’s class during the math section as well. It was all fairly traumatic. That being said, my child did receive a 99 (despite randomly guessing on multiple problems). I would guess that students who received a “perfect” (99th percentile) still had a decent number of incorrect answers — just less wrong than peers.

Same here. My kid thought the math was fairly difficult but scored at the top. There seemed to be some misperception that you needed all correct answers to get a 99% but this is not true. If there weren’t difficult questions, then many kids would get all correct answers and it would not be possible to differentiate.

Yes. My daughter scored a 97 in ELA and 82 in Math. She said it was pretty difficult.
