I just learned that we’re moving to the area for a job promotion and am trying to figure out how the PK3 classes work. Are they full day or half day? Any recommendations?
we’re not moving until July, so I have no idea how to begin navigating this for my child.
thanks for any guidance!

There are only two full day pre-k3 programs in Chicago, Drummond and Suder. Getting offered a spot is probably the hardest lottery in the city. Offers have already been made for the coming school year. Pk3 programs in most schools are half day or about two and a half hours. I would contact your neighborhood schools or schools close to your future home to get a sense of what they offer. My impression has been that with the emphasis on all day pk4 there are fewer half day pk3 programs. I would also check out Kiddy college in the parks district if you are just looking for a couple hours. That schedule will post late summer. Hope that helps!

This is very helpful, thank you. My son has an IEP and has grown so much in full time school. I do not know if that would be taken into consideration, but I will look into it. Thanks for the feedback.

If your son has an IEP, you may be able to get full day. It depends some on what type of IEP and whether your son qualifies for a cluster placement. I would e-mail [email protected] to ask about what options you have.
