GuestI understood Decatur Classical won’t be offering Latin anymore. I urge parents to push back strongly on this. The benefits of studying Latin are well-documented and students will only lose out as a consequence of this decision. Please fight for this fine tradition to continue.

GuestI’ve thought for some time that they need to re-brand the classical schools. A classical education actually has some defined parameters and those are not in line with what is being taught or prioritized in the classical school we attended. Removing Latin just solidifies that.

GuestUnfortunately there is a long list of schools in CPS where 0% of students are able to read or understand math at Illinois recommended grade level. Nobody at the district is going to care about the removal of Latin at your school.
It’s a shame but you’ll have to raise money through your friends of Decatur org to fund the hire of a teacher or two. Sad state of CPS
