This is from chalkbeat.org and the lawsuit filing itself is a great read regarding not only the proposed phasing out of NTA and phasing in of a high school in the South Loop, but also it is enlightening for CPS SQRP ratings and school code, policy, the history behind NTA, etc.
NTA lawsuit: Parents supporting National Teachers Academy Elementary filed a lawsuit against CPS, which decided in February to phase out students from the academy and convert its building into a new high school. The plaintiffs allege that CPS’ decision to close the academy is discriminatory and does not comply with the Illinois education code’s criteria for school closings. Lawsuits to stop school closings in Chicago have typically failed. But keep an eye on this case. Take a look at the lawsuit, here. For the district’s response and more, see our Twitter thread.
