Hello! Any preK parents of Alcott kids? My child just got an offer here and I know nothing about the school. Seems like it’s very highly regarded, but my child will come from Montessori where they have been able to level up to 6 yo stuff, academically speaking. I am worried this will stunt them on the path to SEES/RGC testing in the fall (sorry if the terminology isn’t right, still learning!). If the Pre K kids will be learning letter sounds, they will be bored to tears. Sight words are currently at a 4th grade level and reading at a 1st grade level.

I’ve talked to our tutor who thinks that the rigor and formal education experience of pre K at Alcott would give them a more well rounded experience and help the prep for the SEES/RGC testing and path to RGC in 23-24 school year for Kindergarten.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts anyone can offer up.

A great book I recommend for the classical test math is a book called mental math levels 1 and 2. Get your child use to speaking to adults when you go to store talk about a scale that weights your vegetables, fruits and etc., what do you call somebody who bakes cakes and pies., Baker and things of that nature its more so about exposure. For the ” gifted” test do a lot of puzzles and pattern recognition type of things a lot hole punches in paper and unfold the paper what will that pattern look like? Making inferences.

For the quantitative portion of this test, getting your child started with Singapore Math (with depth) is probably the best.  Check out http://www.samlincolnpark.com

chiParent256, did you end up going to Alcott for pre-K? I’m in the same boat as you were last year – child coming from Montessori with advanced language and math skills. If you ended up going to Alcott, I’d love to know if you thought it propelled or stunted your child’s academic progress. As well as how well Alcott prepared your child for the Classical / RCG school tests.
