First grade entry. R99 M90. Tier 4. Offered Bronzeville classical. Wondering whether to take Bronzeville which is very new or Skinner west neighborhood school. Any Bronzeville parents? Anyone who can contrast Bronzeville with any of the other classical schools? Any insight basically will be helpful. Thank you.

I have alot of friends that have children that attend BC and they left other classical schools like skinner north and west, McDade and others. The principle was the Assistant principle at Skinner North. Principle Spicer she is fantastic. I have had conversations with her she is on top of her game. Also the parent group is very progress and do alot of fund raising and are invested into making BC the best. If my child was younger I would have made the switch. If the school wasnt fantastic those parents would not stand for nothing less than excellent it will only continue to get better.

Hi ShyMom – This is very late but I was doing a search for something else and came across the title of your post. I actually am a parent whose child started at Skinner North for Kdg and transferred to BCS for 1st grade, mostly due to the daily commute. We love the school and am looking forward to when things get somewhat back to normal. With covid-19 separation of the children, we need more opportunities to bridge the socializing gap. It is nice having a smaller school community (we added 4th grade 2020-21) to grow with. If you haven’t done so already, please check out the social media sites of whichever school you have chosen. Good luck!

Could I ask how your kids were able to transfer from SN to Bronzeville? My twins are split up at different classical schools, creating a logistical nightmare. Would be so much easier to have them together. Looking for any guidance and advice that could help me. Thank you!

By transfer, it is meant to test and get accepted into a different SEES. There is no such thing as just a transfer of schools with SEES.

Our daughter is at Skinner North, and we are transferring her out this year. She has begged us not to go back in-person. The school has completely changed since the previous principal and many of the fabulous teachers have left. In fact, none of our daughters K-4th grade teachers are still at the Skinner North. There is a pervasive bullying problem there, and when kids or parents report, they are given lip-service. While my daughter wasn’t being bullied, her best friend was and it was so upsetting for her to witness. When we reported, we were told the bullied child has emotional problems, but our daughter told us that it was only because of how other kids and staff treated her friend. We can attest to that as they have been friends for years, and we have never seen the kind of behavior the school wanted us to believe come out of her friend, who is the sweetest and kindest kid we know. The stories shared by our daughter were really painful to hear. The older the kids get the more competitive and mean they become- so many kids have left in recent years. Other parents can be pretty snobby and treat the school like their own private school. Ms. Spicer was at Skinner North as the Assistant Principal for a while, and we were so sad when she left. Our daughter loved her, but she is too old to transfer to Bronzeville Classical! Ms. Spicer just has an openness and a refreshing way about her. Pick Bronzeville Classical!!

Hello everyone- Our daughter got into BCS kindergarten program for 2021-2022 school year.
just wanted to check how is BCS as compared to the other classical schools like Skinner North and West? Does all the classical schools have the same curriculum?I would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

@Miss Mommy congrats on getting into BCS yes the classical schools are all great choices but not all equal and the biggest factor is leadership, teachers, parental involvement , students, and etc., BCS has all that BCS is adding a grade ever year until I think they are up to the 5th grade now but will add until the 8th grade.
