      Hi Parents,

I’m still trying to crack this CPS code. Can anyone share information about Carnegie School? I need to make a decision on this school by 6-11-21.

Carnegie has a regional gifted program and open enrollment. They have above average academic attainment for all their students which is amazing at a school with a majority black population. They have better academic outcomes for black students then Pritzker or Skinner North.

If you have a spot in the regional gifted program, I would recommend taking it. Carnegie buses students who live more than 1.5 miles from the school and between 39 and 75 on the south side.

Another regional gifted option is Morton School of Excellence a new program on the west side. And they don’t have busing boundaries.

Can someone offer insights s out the RGC program at Carnegie please? Like 3rd grade? Are kids thriving there? Any social tensions? I don’t know anyone there, asking for help!

We have been at Carnegie for the last two years – Kindergarten was open enrollment and this last year, 1st grade, was RGC. The RGC program has been solid; I feel we get inconsistent communication from the teachers, or simply not a lot of details, which means I rely on my child sharing what they’re doing/discussing. That said, he is demonstrably happier than he was in kindergarten. The smaller class size and less time spent on getting students to settle down/pay attention has meant more time for actual content and knowledge acquisition. That said, we are also on the rolling waitlist for other schools.
