I have a kid going into first grade, and what I hear from a lot of parents is that it’s rare to get into any choice school after K. Is that true? Will my kid be at their neighborhood school until 8th?

I really wanted to get into Disney in uptown.

Yes, getting an offer from a choice school after the initial K entry year is increasingly more difficult. Here is Disney’s previous application cycle data (grade / # of applicants / # of offers). It’s not impossible in grades after K, but there are usually less open slots as the kiddos get older (and less likely for move outs to happen):

      K / 316 / 196 (62%)
      1 / 71 / 46 (65%)
      2 / 63 / 35 (55%)
      3 / 67 / 35 (56%)
      4 / 38 / 25 (66%)
      5 / 45 / 0 (0%)
      6 / 54 / 0 (0%)
      7 / 46 / 0 (0%)
      8 / 26 / 0 (0%)

Jeff S, where did you find this offer data?

Here is Disney’s school profile where I grabbed that data from: https://www.apply.cps.edu/en/program/UHJvZ3JhbToxMTE0?admissionProcessId=QWRtaXNzaW9uUHJvY2Vzczo0
