Does anyone have any idea as to how Classical scores are ranked? For example, assuming that the scores below were all earned by Tier 3 students who all applied to, say, Skinner North, in which order would SN give them offers?:
91R/91M
92R/84M
80R/95M
83R/97M
96R/85M
It seems like the most straightforward way to rank Classical scores would be to combine them and then sort from highest to lowest, but based on the offers that schools have made over the last three years, I don’t think that’s how they’re doing it. For reference, here’s a link to all the first round offers made by Skinner North over the past three years. Am I crazy to think that they’re giving extra weight to 99s? I don’t know, I’m just having a lot of trouble making sense of some of these numbers.

I don’t know the answer to your question. I do know that in prior years, there have been reported scores over 99% for classical. Even for our early entry to k score for school year 20-21, we received scores over 99%. Last year for 21-22, I did not see anyone report over a 99 for classical test. Since my child’s score was 99 on classical… I did call OAE and they said that 99 was the highest they went. So they must have changed it last year. I wonder if there is recognition on the back end of partial percentages… and we don’t see that. And that those 99.5- 99.9 ‘s give a lot of weight in the algorithm.

Yeah, I’m wondering the same thing, too. I think you’re right that last year was the first year that they got rid of partial percentages on 99th percentile scores, but it seems likely that they kept that info on the back end and it may have figured into how they ranked scores.
I checked last year’s Kindergarten results thread to see how things matched up with the data I got, and there was one Tier 4 parent who was hoping for a Decatur offer with a 97R/96M and ended up having to wait until mid-August to get one. The data matches up: there’s a 4th round Tier 4 offer to Decatur for 97R/96M. BUT there are also Round 1 Tier 4 offers to Decatur for 93R/99M and 99R/89M, so obviously those 99s mean more than the combined scores. I just wish I could figure out how much extra weight they’re giving to 99th percentile scores, and whether it’s ONLY 99s that are getting extra weight, or if something like a 98/92 would be ranked above a 96/95, too.

Correction: it was a 3rd round Tier 4 offer to Decatur for 97R/96M.
