Hi Everyone. Is there a forum for parents who have kids applying to Catholic schools? I’d love to discuss school offers and HSPT scores but I can’t find anything. Which is odd since we like to talk about school choices here in Chicago.

There is a forum under “Parochial Schools” in the forums list, but not much activity.  Each thread has very few posts.  This site is predominantly CPS discussions.  You might be able to find a comparable forum for Catholic and other private schools.  I went through HS process two years ago and again this year, so I am also familiar with HSPT.  Since we are non-CPS, I come back to this site every now and then to check the forums because CPS selective enrollment was/is my kids’ first choice.

Both of my sons tested at DePaul.  With my now-sophomore, they did not give his HSPT score with his acceptance.  I requested his score because his grade school likes to keep track.  They only gave me his total percentile, not a breakdown for each section of the test.  I suppose they might have given me more specific info if I requested.  DePaul says notification BY 2/1, but it was ON 2/1 for my older son.  Ignatius notifies before DePaul, so that should be happening any day now.  Not sure about other schools.

When we went through the process two years ago, I asked about cutoff scores on the HSPT for acceptance.  They say the exam is only part of the application because they look at grades, standardized test, blah, blah, blah.  Some schools want recommendations or a personal statement, so I guess that’s true.  Ignatius said HSPT scores in the high 80’s are students who tend to do well there.  DLS materials state the cutoff (around 60%, I think).  Don’t know about DePaul.

      Good luck!!
