Looking for feedback on Kenwood AC? How is instruction? Will there be opportunities for virtual tours? to meet staff? talk to other students? Please share.

Also looking for info about Kenwood AC. Unfortunately, I did not get an opportunity to tour. Any insights would be appreciated.

My child is finishing their 8th grade year at Kenwood and will join their sibling at a SE HS next year. We have really enjoyed Kenwood for the last two years. It’s a great “middle school program”. They have well rounded curriculum, great teachers and a structured program that helps manage students’ organization and 6 classes. A “high school in training“. I highly recommend it. No school is perfect but I would have done it again and our child is absolutely ready for high school.

The AC classes are also mainly in a separate building which I liked. I think it was an easier building to manage.

What is the pct of students that leave Kenwood after finishing the AC vs staying to attend the high school? what are your thoughts on the high school?
-
Momof2Guest
I think the last number I saw was that 92% stay at the high school. I think the high school is great as well. They do an awesome job at college admissions and college is the mission for the high school. We wanted to have both kids at the same school and weighed the pros and cons of a SE high school.

I get it about one drop off, pick up and one destination that means alot. Congrats I have also heard wonderful things about Kenwood look at how much the tier 4 scores increased vs last year!!

Thanks momof2 for your comments.
Are most of the Kenwood AC or HS students from the surrounding community, or do a significant number of students come from other areas? We’d be traveling quite a distance and wonder how common/rare our situation is.

@WestLoop
your situation isnt rare at all Kenwood AC is great its students are located in their own building from the High School. Kenwood is located in a very nice area although congested in Hyde Park. Look at last year scores for tier 4 and compare them to this year scores. I think last year you could get in with a lower score for tier 4 than tier 2 and 3? that has had a huge swing from last year tier 2 665.5 tier 3 705.1 and tier 4 was 590.1??!! This years score tier 2 732.8 tier 3 740.7 and TIER4 761.3!!! I know at WY and Lane numbers but look at that crazy jump from last year. There are alot of tier 4 that live in hyde park most of it is zoned as tier 4 they usually would send their children to Lab school or other privates also WY but what they took notice of how the children coming out of Kenwood are getting accepted to top universities and geeting alot of money for school. Also the high school students at Kenwood take classes at University of Chicago for free!!! Congrats !!

getting there will not be the problem but getting back downtown will get congested.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Apparently, there’s bus service from my neighborhood, such that commuting may not be a problem.</p>

Anyone with any new feedback on Kenwood Academic Center? If you live very far away from it, is it worth it or better to stay in your current elementary school?
-
jazzmanGuest

What does the AC curriculum consist of I do not see it on the school’s website?
Are the free classes at U of C offered during grades 9-12? -
jazzmanGuest
7th grade AC math algebra, science usually biology, English, gym, and etc.
8th grade geometry or algebra 2, chemistry or more biology, English usually freshman level, and etc.
