Northside vs Lane Tech

Northside vs Lane Tech:
My daughter got perfect points (900) in HSAT. I gave her the option to choose Northside or Lane Tech. We live in the area between NCP and LaneTech. So, commute is almost same for either school. Payton is also good choice. But the commute will be challenging given the traffic conditions towards downtown and it’s a long term 4-year commitment for daily drive.
We toured both the schools and here are major differences as per my analysis.
1. Northside is a mid-size and Lane Tech is a big setting like a university.
2. Northside has a little edge on academic scores than LaneTech.
3. Somewhat easy to get into School sports in Northside compared to Lane Tech.
4. Northside has Block schedule and LaneTech has Period Schedule.
Both are similar in other areas like Clubs, ECs etc. Both are very good rock-solid schools. I believe she can thrive in both these schools as long as the environment supports her. My daughter is more interested in Science related projects. Which school is strong in that department?

In general, top 1% of students can make it perfect in any school in the world (rating doesn’t matter). However, for majority of teenagers, school environment matters as they shape out how good people come into society.

I personally went to Northside and have friends who went to Lane, and I would 100% choose NCP over Lane again if given the chance. Just the sheer amount of people at Lane and how big it is can be stressful for anyone. Northside has its flaws like any school, but I just think the opportunity at Northside is better and in a closer community it’s easier to make friends. Not to mention in the long term quite a few colleges will do a double take at applications with Northside on them, any NCP student will tell you they’re a feeder school for Northwestern University and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
