So, my kid was not able to get into the selective enrollment school she was hoping for. We’re on a waitlist or two but based on how little those have moved I’m not too confident they’ll get to her.
I have been able to find some info on transfers but I want to be as prepared as humanly possible.
How exactly does that process work? I assume there are far fewer open seats since most freshmen will want to continue on as sophomores. Is that accurate? I assume straight As are almost a prerequisite – with that said, is it like the initial application process where the only grades that matter are final grades from the year prior or will grades from freshman year be taken into account instead? Any other notes / things to keep in mind that anybody can think of?

I’m probably not going to be the most helpful here, but I can provide a little information. I have a student at Payton so I will speak from that perspective. According to Payton’s transfer application, the candidate must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA minimum to apply. There are a few other criteria like strong attendance, no suspensions, good standing with their current school, etc. In addition to the application and essay requirement, the applicant must provide a 2 recommendation letters from their current teachers – one from either english or social studies and one from either math or science. If you go to the Payton website, there is a section for transfer students and you can find additional information and the application. I heard that Payton has accepted 30+ transfer students for the next school year.
I assume that the other selective enrollment schools would have transfer information on each of their websites and what the criteria is. You may want to look at those sites, depending on what selective enrollment school your student is interested in.

Hi.
My daughter so is going to her sophomore year received a notification from WY high school that she had been selected for a transfer. In the email it informs that it’s conditional upon OAE. So, now we are waiting on OAE to approve. Anyone ever been through this process? -

Hello,
Is there anyone who got into one of the selective high schools through a transfer application? My kid has a 3.9 GPA and is taking honors and AP classes. She wants to transfer for her junior year. Do you think we should try to make a transfer application?
Thank you!
