I’m wondering what this tests for and how it is scored.

The RGC test is reasoning abilities, problem solving, patten identification, etc.

The testingmom.com has good resources. CPS does not name the actual test, so she says to prep with  OLSAT, NNAT and CogAT practice questions. I did not do that, and my child scored a 141 in the K entrance exam, but I believe she would’ve scored higher with a bit of prep. Testing mom also has flash cards you can purchase for practice.

Thanks. My son got a 143 but I wasn’t sure what number was the top score or what 143 meant. He got into Pritzker so we’re happy I just wasn’t sure if what it was or if it was a good score. I went into all this pretty uninformed on the process.

How do y’all know what the scores are? This is an old thread. Our kid got into Pritzger so that’s good. Not any of the classical schools which is no surprise… he loves math but isn’t reading yet.

When you log in to the go cps site under the kid’s name on the dashboard is button that says student details. Click that and results are there.

By my (possibly flawed) calculation, this is 2.86 standard deviations above the mean which would put it at the 99.78th percentile (given an assumption of mean 100 and standard deviation of 15 and that I have any the idea about any of this).

I personally would not take that too literally, but yes, it’s a good score and it’s no surprise that they got into Pritzger.

Will they be attending then? We are strongly considering it.

Hi, I found this info on the CPS website in the FAQs. Basically, a score of 115 or higher “may” be good enough to get into a Regional Gifted Center. I realize this doesn’t answer all the questions but may help.
How are students selected for Selective Enrollment Schools?

Applicants for the Regional Gifted Centers and Classical Schools are selected based on their admissions exam score, and applicants for the Academic Centers are selected based on a point system. Students who earn a score below 115 may not be considered potential candidates for a Regional Gifted Center seat. Students who earn a score below the 75th percentile in either reading or mathematics or both may not be considered potential candidates for a Classical Schools seat. Selection for all applicants is in accordance with the admissions policy for magnet, selective enrollment and other GoCPS programs.
