Does anyone have any educated guesses as to whether there will be more, about the same, or fewer SEES applications this year? The pandemic challenges would lead me to believe there would be fewer, but they did extend the deadline and testing went much later than usual. Thoughts?

It’s possible that more families have moved to the suburbs then years past. I haven’t seen any statistics regarding this.  Or it’s possible that more families have enrolled in Catholic schools because of the CPS school closures. Not sure if enrollment deadlines have passed for fall 2021, or if seats are filling up faster then normal that would equate to earlier commitments. Hope we get more feedback from other posters on this!

Also, it’s possible that less people were willing to test in person because of COVID. It is suspect that they extended the deadline, almost like the application  numbers were too low. I’m sure this only had something to do with lottery and not selective enrollment numbers, as their objective is to fill total seats. And low lottery applications would most definitely result in lower total enrollment. With how desirable the selective enrollment seats are, I would think most families would not pass up the opportunity if offered.  I could definitely see choosing not to test your child due to COVID, if you didn’t think chances were good he/she would get a high score. So that might eliminate a child that had unexpected scores. I’m betting that if you thought your chances were good of getting high scores, you would take the risk of the in person testing. Our family is pretty COVID risk-adverse and didn’t even consider not testing.

Overall my guess is with how difficult it is to get a selective enrollment seat pre COVID, I think the difference is marginal.

Do you happen to know how late testing ran this year? I am personally starting to get impatient for the date to be released! And have been checking the website almost daily. I have not called the office yet.

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one checking the site daily.

I check ALL.THE.TIME. I called OAE and they basically said “when we know, you’ll know.”

      It is very frustrating.

My kids tested im the middle of March.

There were 10-15 kids per each grade.

I guess there were more than 50 kids per one session (like 1pm session.)

I predict there will be fewer SEES applications this year based on CPS remote learning. I believe that extension to the testing deadlines was more likely due to the late start date (testing started about a month and a half later than usual) and to accommodate Covid restrictions than to expand the testing pool.

I also contact the OAE last week via email for an update on testing and lottery results and got the “we’ll tell you when we know” response.

We will actually be able to measure it. I saw this on another post on this forum. If you go to an individual schools profile (on CPS website) and click on “admissions” you will see how many applications each individual program received last year, and how many offers they made. More schools then I expected made zero offers for their non-sees lottery seats. Hoping they provide the same info this year!

      @Bpmommy

Would you be able to share the link for the offer stuff?

      I couldn’t find it.

      thanks!

To find how many applicants and how many offers were made for Selective Enrollment and Magnet programs, go to the CPS School Locator or Find a School and type in the name of a school https://www.cps.edu/schools/find-a-school/

Then click on the Admissions tab to see applicants and offers for the prior admissions cycle. Example for Edison: https://www.cps.edu/schools/schoolprofiles/609794

Does anyone know what the necessary Math/English test scores are for SEES for Bell and Coonley?
