Hi Everyone,
My Son’s scores are M-99, R-99, RGC-129(Tier 4).
Offered McPherson. Contemplating if we should take it. Any luck with with these scores in Skinner West/ Skinner North/ Bell?

ChiMom81Guest
Got into Skinner North with same scores (Tier 4). Will probably decline so good chance.
-
ShinyGuest
@Chimom81 Just curious why are you declining it?

Hi I posted on K but have a child in K SEES at McPherson and like it – are sending a second to the K SEES program there next year. (An added advantage is that if offers a better opportunity for siblings.) Feel free to reach out with questions.

Thank you so much for the information. I would love to talk and get some more information. Can we talk over phone if that is okay with you.

My daughter got into Beaubien SEES, I have no idea if it’s a good school or not. She got an RGC: 117. What have you heard of Beaubien?
-
MCGuest
We absolutely LOVE Beaubien! We tried 2 private schools before our son tested in for 2nd grade. Beaubien is better than either of the private schools. The principal great. We’ve found the teachers and staff excellent.
Also their PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is very active, which is sometimes an important over looked component of a school. Their PTO runs a lot of family/community building events and fundraisers. All the money raised goes right back to provide lots of great stuff for the kids (class room enhancements, playground upgrades, field trips, assemblies).
Our daughter just tested in as well. After our overwhelmingly positive experience with our son, Beaubien was really the only choice we wanted from the list of RGCs.
I agree with some of the above comments that it is a hidden gem!

@Ryan Forge
My boy is in the first grade. the school is a hidden germ..I like Mrs.Slaiwa. she is very organized.
but he is going to transfer to Decatur since he just got an offer and it is closer from my place.
BTW. 119 is below than cutoff. prob not many kids applied for Beaubien…
so I think.you should accept the offer..if you don’t accept, it seems the odd is low to get an another offer from different schools..-
MariaGuest
Do RGCs have different entry scores? How does that work? I wonder why more people didn’t apply to Beaubien as I thought all RGCs were the same.
-
Teser JaneGuest
It’s a good school but it’s kinda unknown because its entry-grade is 1st grade. I love it here I would totally recommend it. I think Ryan got lucky and slipped through the cracks.

Thank you! Glad to hear you like it. That makes sense it’s only one of two that begin in first grade.

Hello everyone,
My son’s score: M-94, R-95, RGC-135. Got an offer from McPherson for first grade. He is currently in Blaine for K. Our first choice is Bell. Is there any chance of getting into Bell if we decline McPherson? Not sure if it’s worth leaving his current school for something unknown. Thanks in advance!

Ravenswood MomGuest
My child is also currently in the SEES K at McPherson. I can also attest that it has been a really great experience. I’ve been impressed by the community and the teacher is wonderful! Just wanted to share!

My son got the offer from Bell with higher score than your son’s. My friend’s daughter was not offered with first choice. Her score is higher than 135.

Thanks! Good to know that you like it at McPherson.

I’ll join the McPherson bandwagon. It’s been a weird year, but the K teacher has been great, the community has been incredible, and our oldest child has thrived there. We’re hoping our youngest gets a spot there next year.

Hello,
we are currently at Skinner North. Great experience so far. Daughter got an offer from Keller. Not planning to switch but wanted to get inputs on experiences at Keller nevertheless – teachers, involvement of parent community, student experience, etc.
And the comparison between classical and gifted schools? Given all the kids are so talented – is there any appreciable difference in curriculum, instruction, extra curriculars, and long term learning. Most kids appear to operate 2-3 grades ahead.

Chicago BornGuest
I have heard nothing but great things about Keller. I know to parents who each have a child there. Our child was accepted to 1st grade and we are accepting.

At the risk of overselling, I wanted to give one more comment on McPherson – the fact that there are first grade offers does not mean that kids are leaving the RGC program. The principal has been committed to keeping K classes under 20 (both in neighborhood and RGC)-that has been nice given this crazy year but means there always were going to be a few additional spots that naturally opened in 1st, even if everyone stayed.

We got SW 1st grade with 99/99 in 2019 fall
they took 3 kids that year, expanding from 28-31 kids in class. Not sure if they will do the same for 1st grade this year. We were not waitlisted, we got the offer when the scores came out.
In 2020 they added 1 kid for 2nd grade. 1 kid had left the school.

My daughters score
R 99 M 99 RGC 148
She was offered our 1st Choice – Pritzker
I ranked our choices on proximity and know nothing about Pritzker. I now realize that I may have been better off putting Bell as our first choice. Does anyone have any feedback on Pritzker’s RGC program? Without being able to tour schools this year, it has been rough!
-
HannaGuest
I’ve just been on one tour of Pritzker but can say many people who have chosen it, love it and it is established. The RGC kids have access to their wonderful arts program which is unique for RGCs. Congrats on the score, I doubt there are enough seats at Bell to hold out, but no one can know for sure.

Thank you for the info! I think my daughter would love the arts program as well. We will most likely go for it!

Tier 4
Offered Keller
Any insights would be appreciated, thanks!

Chicago BornGuest
@Chole Our child received an offer from Keller for 1st grade also and we are accepting. It is an excellent school and was last ranked #1 in Illinois for elementary schools. Did you receive an email from the school this week? They have in-person school tours and registration dates; also videos you can check out.
-
CholeGuest
@Chicago Born, have you heard anything about the informational session? Thanks!
-
Chicago BornGuest
<p style=”text-align: left;”>@Chole No I haven’t heard anything about informational session. My husband went to the in person tour on Wednesday and picked up registration packet. He got information about the school on the visit. I believe the informational session will be more on what the Fall school year will look like due to covid and since it’s still early they are waiting on final decisions. That’s just my assumption. Plus Q & A I’m sure.</p>

We’ll be declining our 1st grade/1st round slot at Bell. My child’s score was RGC 144. Hope that’s helpful to someone
-
CPS dadGuest
kind of late, but is anyone else rejecting their 2nd round offers to SN 1st grade? Our child scored 96/96 and I’m thinking there are probably at least a dozen kids ahead of us 🙁
