We just moved to Chicago and are working hard to learn and navigate the Chicago school system (lol). Our son is currently enrolled in a good neighborhood school in Lakeview but we aren’t sure if we’ll stay in the neighborhood; also, we are interested in having him attend a SEES. Right now it seems that he isn’t really being challenged at school, his work is always 100% correct and he says it’s boring. I don’t think he needs to skip a grade but a SEES seems like it would be a good fit for him.
Has anyone had any experience in testing outside of regular testing window and moving a child mid school year?

SEES does not have a mid-year test & transfer process but to get more challenge, the first step is to always talk with the teacher to see if more can be done to give your child more rigor. Otherwise the GoCPS application for 2023-2024 is open through Dec 2 and you can certainly have your child apply & test for next year.

CPS does offer Whole Grade acceleration. While it may be an option to get your child next level subject matter, it may depend on how old your child is and how that grade skipping may affect him down the line. I also don’t know how many placements actually happen.
