      Hi all!

I wanted to see how people think of SEES vs good magnets based on lottery? And maybe you can help me navigate my case when having relatively bad (?) neighborhood school – Ogden.

My thoughts are that magnet entry is in K and no more exams along the way to stay, while in SEES entry is K, and exams before 1 and 5. How often for kids to not be ranked to SEES after getting in the K and then before 1 and 5?

I heard that good magnets are similar to SEES and it might be a safe bet just to go to magnet if we win the lottery than to go to SEES. So if we win the lottery and admitted to SEES for K – would it be better to go to magnet due to more educational stability and security? Or if you get into SEES – it’s very rare not to get into 1 and 5 grades?

PS I do have many assumptions here, so if you have any different thoughts – please correct me.

Not sure what you mean about exams in 1 and 5. Once you’re admitted to the SEES you can stay through 8th or whatever the last grade is, there are no exams required to continue.

My understanding after looking at typical SEES like Skinner North admissions page: https://www.cps.edu/schools/profiles/school-overview/admissions/skinner-north – there is an admissions exam for K, 1st and 5th grade. So for example: once you get into 1st grade, you’ll stay until 5th grade where you’ll need to do another Admissions Exam to get into 5th grade, to stay until 9th grade.

      Am I missing something?

PS Edison admissions page looks the same with the same admissions exams entry grades: https://www.cps.edu/schools/profiles/school-overview/admissions/edison

As other responder said, once you get into SEES, you’re in until 8th grade (or whatever the school goes up to). Kids don’t have to retest ever to stay at the school. I agree that the website you linked to is confusing. I think just reflects the fact that there are different exams used for K, 1-4, and 5-8. So if your kid is testing to get in as a 1st grader, it’s a different exam than those given to kids testing to get in as a kindergartner.

Wow – thanks, I totally misunderstood it then! I was wondering on why they don’t have any stats for the “Previous Application Cycle Data” for the higher grades, but now it makes sense!
