Separating Siblings: Options and Neighborhood

Hello,

I am a mom of two and my younger child was offered a spot in 1st grade in an Options program.  My older child is 2 grades older and the two are very close (they’re each other’s best friends).  They’ve been attending the same neighborhood school all year but we are thinking of separating the two and putting them in different schools–one in options, the other in neighborhood.

Do any of you have any advice on how to go about talking to both kids about this?
