I just had a call with someone at OAE that really confused me, or, perhaps I’ve had it wrong all along.
They said that there is no 2nd round for the SEES, that’s just for choice schools.
Perhaps it’s just semantics because I know I’ve heard people can get offers from SEES after the original offer date. So if it’s not subject to the ‘Rounds’, is it rolling? When do subsequent (post-initial offer) offers start?

Mostly semantics. Round 2 available only for those SEES that still have seats available. Last year CPS also sent a separate email informing you if your kid’s score qualifies them for applying to programs with open seats. Otherwise, it’s rolling. There were kids who joined our SEES program for K last year even after the school year started.

CPS’s terminology is super confusing. The first application period from October to December each year is called “Round 1”. After the first/initial release of notifications in Spring, the “Round 1 waitlist period” kicks in and there are many waitlist “cycles”, but some people called them “Rounds”, which creates the confusion.
For schools with seats to fill but have exhausted their waitlist from the Oct to Dec Round 1 application, they enter into a “Round 2 Application”. This “Round 2” only contains programs that have no waiting applicants and is open for both those who did Round 1 but find programs they want to “add” from the Round 2 listing, or families who missed Round 1 entirely. This later, “left-over spot” application used to be called the more aptly named “End of Year Citywide Application”, which usually opened in June.

Yeah OAE wasn’t just unhelpful, they were a net negative and just caused more confusion.
They obviously KNOW what you are referring to with rolling admissions and R2 with SEES. They get this call 1000x every year.
It’s either incompetency at best or deliberate wrong information at worst.
Either way, the 45 minutes spent on hold with OAE? NOT WORTH IT.

For what it’s worth, I believe that CPS has had some issues with Schoolmint no longer supporting the Round 2 process, and they’ve had to scramble to readjust. This could explain some of the confusion at OAE, as the process will be different this year, and it wasn’t necessarily something that was communicated to CPS by Schoolmint in a timely manner.
