I see so many of my friends who leave their babies at daycare, and I always wonder if it’s the right thing to do. Can you guys help me in knowing why babies should go to daycare?

Daycare is a good place for babies because it gives them the early socialization and stimulation they need. In a daycare setting, newborns interact with other kids and kind adults, which promotes the growth of their social and emotional abilities. They participate in developmentally appropriate activities that help children grow physically and cognitively, laying the groundwork for future education. While parents can focus on their jobs or other duties, daycare spaces provide a secure, organized atmosphere that ensures their well-being. Daycare also lays the groundwork for lifetime learning and helps children easily transition to school. It is a nurturing environment where infants can thrive and grow among a welcoming group of people.

Why are you asking? In most families, both parents work to pay their bills, save for college education and retirement. And many parents do not have grandma around or another family member to help out.

OP, ideally, babies should not go to day care, but stay with one of the parents who is willing to be a stay at home parent and provide multiple daily enrichment opportunities that will include playdates with other babies cared for by a stay at home parent. If you are willing to stay at home (it’s harder work than going to a job) until your baby is at least 3 and can go to preschool and if you can afford it, go for it. It is a luxury, but more beneficial and safer for a baby. And yes, has to be a parent, not a grandma.
