Lane’s higher cut off scores vs. WY, how to rank choice

Lane Tech AC cut off scores were 5 points higher compared to WYAC this year (Tier 4: 570 vs 565). We’d like to rank Lane 1st choice, WY 2nd but by doing this, if our kid doesn’t make the Lane cut off, does that mean they are placed behind lower score applicants who rank WY as 1st choice?

No, it’s always the right strategy to rank in your actual preference order, if you have a higher score than someone who ranked WY first, you’d get the spot despite ranking it second.
