Haven’t seen anyone post this year so I’ll get things going.

Tier 2 with twins going into kindergarten. It was a bit discouraging that they didn’t receive any offers but I’m hoping these waitlists move in the coming months. Only included waitlists under 100.

      Chicago World Language : 2 & 3
      Galileo : 19 & 20
      Lasalle II : 16 & 17
      Lasalle : 30 & 31
      Ogden : 17 & 18
      STEM : 21 & 22

We were on the list 2 years ago and got CWLA all the way from #39 ish [Tier 3] and Galileo offered from the twenties. STEM is less likely to move as much. Hope that helps, good luck!

The twins got offers from Chicago World Language Academy. We’ve also moved up the waitlist in our tier for Ogden, LaSalle, LaSalle II & STEM. Remain hopeful!

Well, we have zero offers for my Kinder- going kid.
One hopeful number from the waitlist, and the others seems incredibly unlikely. Here are our numbers (Tier 4)

      Chappell: 46
      Goudy : 5
      Hamilton: 39
      Hawthorne: 91 Tier 4
      McPherson: 116
      Nettlehorst: 88
      Peirce: 119
      Ravenswood: 176

Blaine and Coonley are above 200 😂

        Hi CPSmom-

I wouldn’t be surprised if you get offers from Nettlehorst or Hamilton. We are tier 4 and in our K year, we got offers from both with numbers similar to yours. If it helps, I can hunt those down to be more specific!

            Offers to both.

            Hamilton 170’s
            Nettlehorst mid 90’s!

            Have hope!!!

Silly question – are there multiple waitlists at each school? Or is the general waitlist the only one with all the factors (i.e. siblings, distance etc).

      Ravenswood – 19

Don’t think it will happen, though.

Also, the CPS website states that RW will open on May 1, but the CPS Elementary School administration will be able to move the RW only the following day, so we should not expect any movement until May 2.

This is our waitlist spots, anyone with any experience think we’ll get in to one of them for kindergarten?

        Hi Carol,
Do you mind me asking which school she is transferring from? Mine rising third grader is in Lincoln, will likely get into Hawthorne as well this year. Just looking into pros and cons. Thanks

For people in the waitlist for choice schools, are you seeing any movement at all?

Our son’s entering 5th grade and is on waitlist for the following schools. The waitlist number looks promising, but we haven’t received any offers yet. Do you think he has a chance with any of these schools? Why have there been no offers, especially if he’s number is 1 or 2 in the waitlist?
Feeling a bit frustrated with the whole waiting game here.

      School Waitlist #
      Audobon – #1, general
      Edgebrook – #2, general
      Hamilton – #3, general
      McPherson – #2, general
      Sauganah – #1, general

You will get offers from almost all of these schools. Just call them and ask what is the status for your grade. We received several offers from choice schools in June-July last year, so be patient, and if you want a bit more certainty, you can call each school and ask.

I think it is more difficult for non-entry grades. Unlike Kindergarten, assuming a school is already at capacity, a child has to leave that grade level to open a spot for another student. We were on 4th grade waitlists for Hawthorne (21), Audubon (17) and Ravenswood (3) last year. Hawthorne was the only one that moved 3 spots, but that could also be because people chose to drop from the list.

Yeah, it clearly depends on a year and a school. It is also odd that you are saying nothing moved for 4th grade entry, I thought CPS is adding 4 more spots per grade starting in 4th grade.. Maybe I am wrong.

You generally see more 4th grade movement at SEES and magnets because they have no attendance boundary and have to go through GoCPS to fill their open seats. Neighborhood schools are required to enroll anyone who lives in the neighborhood, so it makes sense to try to keep their class sizes under the max possible enrollment, especially in May when their numbers for the upcoming school year may be more uncertain.

Also magnets and neighborhood schools both have to make sibling offers first. If they fill their small-ish number of open seats with all/mostly siblings, the waitlist will have moved, but no one on the General waitlist will see the movement of the Sibling waitlist reflected in their own waitlist number.

Are people generally thinking that the waitlist movement we are seeing is from families removing themselves from the waitlist or the schools (both Choice and SE) working their way down? In past years, the waitlist wasn’t a reliable source of real-time info, but open to the idea that this is the case this year.

It looks like people are removing themselves from waitlists, but also they may be considering and accepting offers from other schools. This is especially natural for non-entry grades. For K-1 grades usually no movement was noted. I think for non-entry grades people are also considering where the sibling goes, how far the school is, chances of getting accepted at all, etc. Plus if you know that classes are full in certain schools (which is the case with SN, SW, Decatur, Bell, Keller, Edison), then you know you have better chances to get accepted by other SE schools such as Bronzeville, Morton, Lenart, Beaubien or McPherson RGC and you do not want to test your kid again next year because tests get only harder and you never know how the kiddo will perform next year and whether he will be eligible to be waitlisted, etc. This was at least how we thought as a family this year with a couple of kids waitlisted for non-entry grades.

A bit of both. I know there were a couple schools where I removed the twins from the waitlist (so whoever was behind them got bumped up). But schools have also started working their way through the waitlists “manually” on their end.

On the waitlist for LaSalle. Trying to figure out the commute coming from Bridgeport and thought I would see if anyone is or will be heading there from our area. Would love to carpool if the opportunity presents itself. Thanks!
