Academic Centers are part of the CPS Selective Enrollment Elementary School (SEES) application. Notifications for those will go on the GoCPS portal on April 27 and 1st round decisions are due by May 11. Typically schools like Whitney Young and Lane do not have second round offers.

Article from WBEZ regarding which elementary schools send the most kids to SEHS. Also mentions that Payton has about 1/3 of its freshman class from non-CPS schools. They have a search tool to see what percentage of a school’s 8th grade class was accepted to the different types of SEHS. Not sure how “accurate” it is, but you can check it out at the end of the article. https://www.wbez.org/shows/wbez-news/which-cps-elementary-schools-send-the-most-kids-to-top-high-schools/f8a51e7d-dcc5-42f5-ba24-1c357f0204a0

Principal’s Discretion (which is only available for one of the 11 Selective Enrollment High schools that should have been on your child’s original application) will open on April 9 and close on April 20. The packet itself should be available on March 30.

SEHS cutoff scores should also be posted on 3/30/18. Here are cutoff scores: https://www.cps.edu/AccessAndEnrollment/Documents/CutoffScores_SEHS_2018-2019.pdf

CPS has added a page with a plethora of information regarding how, why, where, when, etc they will release information for High School notifications. The new GoCPS single offer application for one selective and one non-selective offer is definitely more confusing than in the past. On top of that, they are adding “Second Rounds” this year, although extremely popular programs will not dip into second rounds, we suspect.

Check out the extremely detailed videos and info on https://go.cps.edu/selection/high-school.

Haven’t seen anything for elementary CPS letters but high school CPS letters will go out on 3/30/18 and they have a ton of info on how they select students, issue offers, and how students accept or decline offers, etc. https://go.cps.edu/selection/high-school
    Also a print version: https://go.cps.edu/assets/pdf/english_full_guide.pdf

I think a few of the private schools are going that route as well. British School may also be amenable to a similar arrangement. If in doubt, contact the school for clarification.

If you have been waitlisted to a private school, feel free to let them know you are still extremely interested in them. Just a quick note or email to say that should you get an offer, you would enroll your child, etc. It doesn’t need to be long, it just needs to convey the fact that you are still eager to be considered should room open up. Private schools do not reveal where you are on their waitlist, as most don’t number their waitlists the way CPS schools do. Nor do they typically let families know how they base their decisions, as it is more holistic than just a numbers game.

If you are waitlisted for a private school, send a note about your continued interest and then it becomes a waiting game as CPS notifications come out later and families do indeed drop private school offers even after sending in deposits because in some cases, free tuition is hard to beat. Private schools want their class sizes filled so waitlists can definitely move, but sometimes not until mid to late summer.

No, Academic Centers are part of the Selective Enrollment Elementary Schools application cycle, and they will notify on April 27, 2018.

This is hot off the Go.CPS.edu website: https://go.cps.edu/learn/news

The word from some CPS high schools is it will be closer to March 30, at the earliest.

in reply to: Private schools admission and time to respond #634

Private schools typically give about 10 days or so for decisions. This year, Latin, Lab and Parker will notify on March 2, 2018, and allow a few days for families to visit again and then submit deposits to hold their place. CPS elementary notifications won’t come out until early April this year, and also allow about 2 weeks for families to revisit schools before returning their first round decisions. Families who apply to public & private schools may have to sacrifice a deposit as they decide which to accept. Make sure to carefully read the enrollment contract to see what the private school’s policy is on withdrawal of acceptance.

I think that came through a Freedom of Information Act request FOIA or it was a result of an article that one of the local reporters or WBEZ had written. That would be great if someone can pursue that again and post updated info.
Can you post the link from the 2012 chart and then maybe it will inspire someone to pursue? Thanks!
