This is CPS’s listing of tours & open houses: https://go.cps.edu/about-gocps/dates-and-events
You can also check this for public & private listings: https://chischoolgps.com/csg-calendar/
FAQs for CPS are under 3 tabs:
https://go.cps.edu/about-gocps/faq/high-schoolchicagoschooloptionsKeymasterThe PD deadline was 4/4/22 and results should be released by 4/22/22.
chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterYes, it is recommended you accept the school that offered you a spot as spaces at PD are limited. Here are some FAQ’s: https://go.cps.edu/about-gocps/faq/high-school#asd1091
chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterIf anyone is able to see the PD application, please post directions. So far it is not listed here yet: https://go.cps.edu/high-school/selection#principal-discretion
chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterYou are extremely wise @Chicagostudent_2026 and I suspect you will excel, be a leader and shine at Von Steuben. Any school would be lucky to have you but your maturity in understanding that school fit goes beyond the “selectivity” of a school is going to serve you well. A good school/life balance that includes a manageable commute will lead to more enthusiasm to engage in your school and take advantage of all the opportunities presented to you. No school is perfect, but having the right attitude and outlook will get you farther than riding on reputation. Great to know that at your age!
03/21/2022 at 7:57 am in reply to: Is there a round 2 option for Selective Enrollment schools? #13580chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterLast year King, Lindblom and South Shore were the only SEHS schools who did not fill their freshman class with acceptances in Round 1, so they were on a Round 2 application. If a student enters Round 2, they are acknowledging that should they get offered the Round 2 school, they will forfeit any acceptance they made in Round 1, so it should only be entered to if there is a school they want to attend more than a Round 1 offer.
This is from: https://go.cps.edu/high-school/selection
“Students may want to participate in the Second Round Application process if
- students are not satisfied with their first-round offer,
- students did not receive a first-round offer, or
- students did not participate in the first round
An application window will be opened after the Round 1 application acceptance deadline and will include only programs that still have remaining seats after Round 1 is complete. Students will complete the application through the GoCPS online portal just as they did in Round 1. When completing the application, students will also have the opportunity to sign up for the CPS High School Admissions Exam. If students had already taken the exam for Round 1, they will not need/be able to test again.
Families can accept a Round 1 offer and still participate in Round 2. However, if the student receives a second-round offer, they will automatically forfeit their Round 1 offer. Because of this, families are cautioned to only apply to programs in Round 2 that they would prefer more than the Round 1 offer they accepted.
Offers for Round 2 will be released in the same way as Round 1. See the homepage for the Round 2 timeline.”
chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterThanks for posting the historical data and here are SEHS cutoffs for 2022-2023: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17-oFoFfDOjegY2YA53K3K4Um9dDf7wsz/view
Some things to note for this year, the first year they tested ALL CPS 8th graders via the new High School Admissions Test (HSAT):
In addition to Payton, Northside, Young, Jones and Lane who have all had 900 pt scorers over several years, this year Lindblom and Hancock also have students who had 900 pts and made it their first choice.
Payton and Northside filled 30% of their freshman class with 900 point scorers (entire rank category is filled with 900 pt scores) and Payton had all of Tier 4 (17.5% of freshman class) also filled with 900 pt scorers.

chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterYes, wherever you reside at the time of application is the address that is used.
chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterThis is Jones’ Overlay Boundary Map for the Pre-Law and Pre-Engineering CTE spots. If you live within the boundary, you are given preference for admittance for the 75 spots in the CTE program (about 37 or 38 spots for each of those 2 CTE programs). https://drive.google.com/file/d/11AOnbz0lJYakCAg9XzVK9ogOHYVECZaF/view
chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterAnyone interested in CPS programs should first start their application by creating an account at https://cps.schoolmint.com/login
If you have not ever had a CPS student, you will answer “No” to the “Do you have a CPS Student ID?” and the portal will walk you through the steps. There are helpful videos here: https://go.cps.edu/howtouse
Any non-CPS students will need their school to submit a letter grade for only 4 subjects (Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies) so the school will need to convert any other grading scale to a final letter grade. There is a drop down to choose your non-CPS school, and there may be a way to submit info for schools not listed. CPS is easy to reach at [email protected] if you have any questions.
chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterThanks for finding the forum. In answer to your questions:
1. The new CPS HS Admissions Test is supposedly a retooling of the past Selective Enrollment High School test, which had 4 sections (reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and math word problems). It used to be paper and pencil and took over 3 hours. Now it is online, timed, and apparently each section adds up to about 2.25 hours.
2. CPS has a way to calculate Socio-Economic Tiers for any address within the US, but addresses from outside the US will be considered Tier 4, the highest socio-economic tier. I can’t find where I saw this information but it is buried within the CPS info somewhere.
- This reply was modified 3 years ago by chicagoschooloptions.
chicagoschooloptionsKeymasterWe also heard that they are not sure what the total point rubric will be (900 or 600 pts) and they also don’t believe that students will receive their test scores before the application closes, so families are encouraged to rank their school choices without that knowledge.
This new CPS High School Admissions Test will be given to ALL 8th grade CPS students and will be used to select students for any programs that previously had NWEA MAP scores in their rubric such as Selective Enrollment, Magnet, International Baccalaureate, Service Academies, CTE programs.
