I’ve heard great things about SW neighborhood school. Engaged parents and teachers that work together. And they do allow some kids to advance if that’s what they need.
So that I understand the results — she scored high enough to get into kindergarten early, so you can enroll her for this fall, is that right? When is her birthday month?
ChicagoMammaParticipantDecatur had what I thought was an excellent virtual open house. I would contact administration and ask them to send you the video recording.
ChicagoMammaParticipantAsking for clarification — when it says the scores begin at 150, that’s the cutoff score? For what school is this?

ChicagoMammaParticipantI’m so happy to see some kiddos on here got in! Obviously, it would be helpful to see what scores and tiers made the cut this year. Thank you!
ChicagoMammaParticipantThank you. What qualities did the schools you did put on your must have that Edison did not?
ChicagoMammaParticipantHm, well… it’s a suburb. It’s definitely not going to be as dense with entertainment as the city. But it does have a cute downtown, and when you live in Wilmette, you kinda live among all of the North Shore suburbs. But for sure, a different feel.
ChicagoMammaParticipantThe process goes like this (for this coming year):
Child with post-September 1 birthday will take the early entrance to K test in January.
If you get the green light from that, then they will set up a test for SEES. That test can be in January, February, or even March. They will make sure whoever wants to take the test can, so you don’t have to worry about running out of time.
This is from OAE.ChicagoMammaParticipantHow did you not get into Decatur with 99/99? Man, what else can you ask from these kids?

ChicagoMammaParticipantThe first 30 percent of students (for classical and gifted) are the top scores, period. After that, they distribute the empty seats based on the top scores per tier. There are 4 tiers. You can look on the CPS website to see what tier you are in. It’s nothing you can control. Its purpose is to encourage diversity and give the city’s students a more equitable chance at these schools.

ChicagoMammaParticipantIf you are open to moving to a suburb like Wilmette/Winnetka,/Glenview, etc., and are not held into the city because of work or another obligation, then moving to the suburbs could be a great decision. The schools are truly excellent, including through high school. The students have a good community surrounding them, so they have friends to play with. You can also look into the suburbs that allow for you to live in a nearby suburb but go to their school district, such as Park Ridge, Niles, Lincolnwood, etc. Great options there as well. The taxes pay off in the end when you consider all of the included services and extracurriculars (park districts, etc.) that also have excellent programs.
ChicagoMammaParticipantThanks for the reply. It’s comforting to know we’re not the only introverts! @bpmommy, can you explain more about the early test? She tested well and was invited to start kindergarten early, but at an open enrollment school, not gifted? Or did you do early test and gifted test in the same year? Do you know what she was tested on?
ChicagoMammaParticipantSorry, what does NPN stand for?
ChicagoMammaParticipantWhat would you recommend as a more reliable source?
