According to the application data listed on the go.cps.edu website, each school gives more offers than seats available under the assumption not everyone will accept the offer. In the event more students accept than expected, they make adjustments the following school year by decreasing the number of seats available for the next incoming freshman class.
NewWYACmomParticipantGreat scores everyone!!!
NewWYACmomParticipantHi AnxiousParent,
I have friends who “settled” on Kenwood’s AC and turned out to be the best decision for their children. Most stayed for hs, while a few transferred for 9th to attend WY, Lane, Jones and Payton. The kids I know who are still there are now juniors, take courses at U of C and love it. For most classes 7th and 8th graders are completely separate from the hs unless they have an elective such as choir, band, etc. Not sure of your child’s current school, but from what I hear, you can’t go wrong with a top or mid tier AC. The only ac I’ve heard people complain about is Morgan Pk.
NewWYACmomParticipantHi Celi,
Your son can apply via principal’s discretion. The administrator posted the link with the guidelines and also provided the number of spots available at each school. Your son should definitely try to go that route.
Best of luck!
NewWYACmomParticipantHi Lighthouse,
I heard great things about Shoesmith. If you check out the school’s profile on CPS, you’ll see avg class size is small and students appear to perform well on standardized tests. It’s also a Level 1+ school, which is the highest level for CPS schools.
NewWYACmomParticipantapplied to 7th grade at Whitney Young
Tier 2
AC score – 132
NWEA Reading and Math – 99%

My question for current WYAC parents, who are the popular teachers for 7th grade and who are the least favorite teachers?
